Enhancing Language Learning Through Creative Activities

Fun art-based activities in French as part of after-school program

Program Structure

The French After-school Program meticulously balances academics with fun and creative endeavors. Beyond merely providing aftercare, the program integrates various activities that cater to different interests, ensuring that every child finds something they love. The structured approach helps in reinforcing the French language in a natural and enjoyable manner.

Academic Activities

Our program provides academic support for all students based on their ages and proficiency levels. These sessions typically take place after snack time and last about 30-40 minutes.

  • Children aged 4-6 years old (KG-1): suitable for beginners and French Immersion alike, these literacy-based activities focus on developing reading and writing skills while building basic vocabulary. They include word games, story-telling, letter-tracing, etc.
  • Homework support: our tutors will make sure French Immersion students (grades 1-3) complete their homework on time every week and get the help and encouragement that they need. Additionally, students may be presented with graded readers and comprehension activities. Writing activities are tailored to develop creative and structured expression, encouraging children to articulate their thoughts and ideas effectively in French.
  • Short classes for Beginners: Core French students or Beginners will participate in short 20-30 minute interactive sessions designed to build vocabulary and basic communication skills.

Arts-Based Activities

Arts are a powerful medium for language acquisition, and the program leverages this by incorporating a variety of arts-based activities conducted entirely in French. Some of the featured activities include:

  • Painting: Children explore different techniques and styles while learning French vocabulary related to colors, shapes, and artistic expressions.
  • Drawing: Through guided sessions, children enhance their drawing skills and expand their French lexicon with terms associated with art and creativity.
  • Salt-Dough Making: A fun and interactive session where children create various salt-dough items, gaining an understanding of the French language through practical application and sensory experiences.
  • Baking Sessions: These sessions combine culinary skills with language learning. Children follow recipes in French, learning food-related vocabulary and practical language use.

As of September 2025, schools include Runnymede PS, St Cecilia CS, Annette St PS and Perth Ave PS. With trained staff and designated vehicles, parents can have peace of mind knowing their child is in safe hands. Additionally, we provide a nutritious snack daily to help replenish energy and support children’s learning.
